“We will not go back to normal. Normal never was.”

This week I had the opportunity to spend time with Kate G. de la Garza and the (amazing) team at Ithaca Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc. (INHS). What a treat.

I’ve always loved watching Kate lead - fully authentically, humbly, such a fierce care for people, and a willingness to challenge the status quo when it’s needed. Now in a different seat but with the same strong vision of supporting the people around them to do their best work.

My trip also gifted me with these beautiful words from Sonya Renee Taylor, situated conveniently outside of my hotel room window in Ithaca. Her sentiment here is so honest and necessary. What we’ve done to-date in many organizations just hasn’t worked well for a lot of people. It is our imperative as leaders to see the opportunities, set aside our egos and admit that it could always be better, and be willing to do the work - for all of our people. Every. Day.

We’re not going back. So…what new practices have you put in place? What new garments are you stitching? What’s working better for more people?
