Love @ Work.

Recently I posted about the benefit of being intentional in how we work together, and agreeing to some behaviors in our teams. One thing that popped into my mind is “love.” It’s certainly influenced how I lead and I believe we could all use it in our day-to-day.

The idea of acknowledging love in how we work may make some folks squirm, or even elicit some eye rolls. It’s certainly not something we talk about much in the workplace. But as with many big concepts, we’re often not on the same page about what a word like “love” means. What a good occasion to call in bell hooks…

bell hooks described love as a verb rather than a noun - defining it as a “combination of care, commitment, trust, knowledge, responsibility, and respect.” Who wouldn’t want that kind of love in their workplace?!

So on this Valentine’s Day, in the spirit of my own desire to highlight workplaces, clients and collaborators with some heart, I’d love to hear from you. What does LOVE - as a verb - look like for you at work?
